Abusive New York Camera Store Threatens Blogger

"I will make sure you will never be able to place an order on the internet again." "I'm an attorney, I will sue you." "I'm going to call your local police and have two officers come over and arrest you." Just a few of the fun things I got to hear today from someone who said his name was Steve Phillips over at PriceRitePhoto.

First ever Lets Talk Hockey Podcast!

All right so Scott and I got the first episode of Lets Talk Hockey recorded and uploaded last night. 42 mins, only 10mb. Search iTunes Music Store for Lets Talk Hockey. Also if your search ITMS for just Hockey, we are the #2 result! There is a problem with the album art sowning up in itunes. I'm not sure whats wrong, but I have read that some others have had some problems with iTunes too.

So anyways, head on over to iTunes and subscribe, or visit our website http://www.lthpodcast.com

Windows Defender to be integrated into Windows Vista

In case you don't already know, Microsoft has renamed their anti-spyware software as Windows Defender. Windows Vista is the new version of Windows due out late next year. According to this Blog, Microsoft has announced that it is going to intedrate Defender into Vista, rather than offering it as a free add-on. Sounds great right? I say, not really. Sure Defender offers great security and I think all non-techie people should be running some kind of anti-spyware, but what is Microsoft implying with this decision? Sounds to me like they know Vista will be plagued by many of the same security problems as XP and that it will need the extra help.

Ontario Flyers move into first place!

....Yeah that's my Ice Hockey team. We used to be the Kings, but we got some very nice new Flyers jerseys, so were the Flyers now.

We were kind of floating in second place after a couple of tough losses and a disappointing tie early in the season, but today we moved up into first place with a 5-2 victory over the Mutiny. We were short on players too, only had 10 skaters and myself in goal.

Spent the afternoon at the Portable Media and Podcast expo

Today I went to the Protable Media and Podcase expo in Ontairo, CA to see TWIT. For those of you that don't know TWIT = This Week in Tech. It's a weekly podcast put on by a bunch of tech/geek guys, most of whom used to be on techtv. I got to meet Leo Laporte and Steve Gibson, cool guys.

As much as I miss Tech TV and the screensavors, I am really enjoying the content these guys are putting out now. Between TWIT, Security Now, Dignation, and Digital Life TV, there is a whole lot mroe content, with far less annoying advertising.

Mark Russinovich's Sony DRM Full Blog

All detils of the Sony/BGM DRM root kit.

Some non-technical highlights:

The DRM software Sony has been shipping on many CDs since April is cloaked with rootkit technology:

  • Sony denies that the rootkit poses a security or reliability threat despite the obvious risks of both
  • Sony claims that users don’t care about rootkits because they don’t know what a rootkit is
  • The installation provides no way to safely uninstall the software
  • Without obtaining consent from the user Sony’s player informs Sony every time it plays a “protected” CD

George Sr. on Arrested Development uses Linux/Firefox!

check out this screen capture I took from last nights Arrested Development. You can tell that he is using Firefox, and the window theme is a popular KDE theme. It's also running on a tablet PC too, which means that there is now way it came like that. Someone decided to ditch windows! It's cool to see that open source show up in mainstream media like that.

...there was another sceene where he used the google search box on the toolbar, but I couln't find it right away. I will post it if I can find it.

Sony's Thomas Hesse: What users don't know can't hurt them

There's been considerable uproar over Sony's DRM rootkit snuck onto some of their new music CDs. Thomas Hesse, President of Sony's Global Digital Business, has a new spin on technology ... that consumers shouldn't be concerned about things they don't understand.

Standard Atmosphere Calculator comming soon...

I am finishing up my Standard Atmosphere Calculator for fluids class and will post it when it's finished. Stay tuned!

Why you should NEVER BUY MUSIC AGAIN!

...or any other copy protected (DRM) content for that matter

Sony is using a rootkit on some of its music CDs to modify your system to protect their content. For those of you that don't know, a rootkit is something comminly used by viruses/malware to change the operating system and mask their presence. Read for more info:

I hereby call for a complete boycott of ALL DRM protected material! Consumers of the world, we must stand together and show these big corporations that we DO NOT WANT garbage like this!
