Want One Contest Video

The XGames contest didn't work, so here is my next attempt.

LINK FOR HIGHER QUALITY VERSION

This contest is for the Acer Aspire One Netbook. The point is just to make any kind of video that shows how the Aspire One is cool. Details on the contest are here: http://wantonecontest.com/

The winner is determined by the following formula:

5. JUDGING PERIOD: The Judging Period begins on 1/21/09 and ends on 2/01/09. Prize Winner based on the following criteria:

* 25% YouTube views
* 25% Number of comments
* 25% Number of honors
* 25% Overall video rating

So in order to get a high score I need views as well as comments and ratings. No rush to do it now though, as the judging period doesn't start until January 21. I wanted to get the video finished and submitted as early as possible in case there were any problems (which there were, but was quickly resolved.)

This is the project I was working on in this video:

and I used my camera dolly which I explained in this video:

Thanks guys and I will be sure to bump this thread when the judging period rolls around.

oh and here you can see the other entries:

This was a super fun video to make. It was the the first time I have taken a concept through the entire process. Brainstorming > Story Boarding > Test Shooting > Test Edited Video / Rough cut > Final Shooting / Editing.

I actually bought the laptop to use as a prop in the video (which will be returned to Amazon soon.) I even "composed" the music myself also (I say "composed" because i just went into Garage Band and threw in some of the stock loops until I had something that sounded ok.) because the rules prohibit the use of any work that is not the entrant's original work.

My younger brother Pat did most of the shooting and helped me out with a bunch of other stuff too.

I, of course, filmed it in HD, but the contest rules restrict the submitted video size to 50 Mb. I couldn't get a 720p video in under that size.

Making Movies!

Today I spent the better part of the day in my drive way shooting footage for a project. I needed some green screen footage with my glider in the shot. Here is a quick time lapse video of the project:

<--- watch in HD

1 picture ever 60 seconds for a few hours.

It was fun to watch the cars slow down and see the confused looks on people's faces as they dove by.

Shooting good quality green screen footage is pretty tough. It was especially hard in this case because there are many reflective objects in the frame (laptop, sunglasses, control frame, helmet.) All these things reflect the green light from the screen and that makes them appear green in the final footage. That means they will want to key out along with the back ground.

This is for another youtube video contest and I am pretty excited about this one. I have been able to use some cool movie making techniques I found online that don't usually apply to the standard HG video. I should be finished in the next couple of days.
